Noxious Weeds

(Last Updated: 1/17/2023)

Noxious weeds are non-native plants that have been introduced accidentally or as ornamentals in peoples' gardens. Some are poisonous to humans and livestock and most grow rapidly and are extremely difficult to control. They can reduce crop yields, displace desirable plant species, destroy beneficial native habitat, damage recreational opportunities, clog waterways, and diminish land values.

Not all weeds are considered "noxious." This list shows the top 12 noxious weeds of concern in Kitsap County. View photos of these weeds on the WA State Noxious Weed webpage.

Disposal

Dispose of small amounts of noxious weeds along with your household trash. If you have large amounts of noxious weeds to dispose of, contact help@Kitsap1.com to request a disposal voucher from the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Disposal Program.

Guidance to prevent spread during disposal

If the plant is flowering, bag it to prevent seed growth and spread. If the plant is seeding, experts recommend leaving it in place and covering it to prevent seed spread. Some plants, like English Ivy, can spread through stems or leaves. These should be bagged to prevent spread.
