May contain hazardous waste.

Unused charcoal soaked in flammable fuels is hazardous waste and must be taken to the Kitsap County Household Hazardous Waste Facility for free disposal.

Use additive-free wood ash and lump charcoal ash in small quantities as plant fertilizer or in a backyard compost pile.

Give away unused charcoal to a friend or neighbor.

Dispose of cooled, used ash and coal as garbage.

Cool coal and ashes in barbecue for several days. Speed up cooling by carefully placing coals into a metal container full of water. Store items away from combustible materials. Once completely cool, bag and dispose of coals.
