Plastic Bags and Film

(Last Updated: 10/20/2020)

Plastic bags are not recyclable in your curbside recycling bin because they get caught in sorting machines.

However, you can recycle them in take-back bins at local grocery stores and retailers. Find a drop off location here.

Bags must be clean, dry, and free of food residue. Many types of plastic bags are accepted in take-back bins. View a poster (PDF) showing accepted items.

Reuse as a garbage can liner, as a dog poop bag, or ask a local farmers market vendor if they could use your clean and dry plastic bags.

Dirty or wet plastic bags should be put in the garbage.
